IORRAS MASTERS COME FROM BEHIND IN CUP SEMI-FINAL CLASH

The Iorras Aontaithe Master will face Manulla in the final of the Masters Cup on the 20th Match after an exciting encounter with Claremorris on Wednesday the 27th. final score Iorras 7-Claremorris 3 after extra time.

The semi-final clash was a tight encounter with both sides 2-2 at the break with efforts from Eric O’Reilly and Stephen Carolan. In the second half Erris found themselves behind for the second time, but thanks to a second goal from Stephen Carolan both sides were locked together at full time 3-3.

But in extra time the Iorras Masters got a second wind, and thanks to a third goal from Carolan and further goals from Gareth O’Malley, Eric O’Reilly and Pat Murphy, Erris booked their place in the final. Good luck to all on the 20th.

The Iorras Masters next league opponents are Urlaur United on the 6th Match. Then on the 13-3-13 Erris will lock horns with their Cup final opponents, Manulla in the final league fixture and which could be a very interesting clash- a dress rehearsal for the final the following week.

ERRIS MASTERS CONTINUE THEIR WINNING LEAGUE FORM

The Iorras Aontaithe Masters continue their good league form with another three point win against Fahy Rovers on Wednesday night the 20th. A depleted Erris outfit had to rely on some very very old former solderers to bolster there team line-up with a final score, Erris 5 Fahy 2. It was 2-2 at the break thanks to goals from Declan Sweeney and Pat Murphy. In the second half Iorras secured the points with further goals from Stephen Carolan and Martin Boylan, one of which was from the penalty spot. Check out the Star news paper next Tuesday the 26th for a focus on this fixture and on the Masters league in general with photos, and who knows, you may see Michael S. in full flight.

Next up for the Erris Masters is a Semi-final clash with Claremorris in the Masters cup on Wednesday night the 27th.

IORRAS PROGRESS IN FOURTH ROUND CONNAGHT CUP INCOUNTER

Iorras Aontaithe, through to the last eight in the Connaght cup, with a second half performance to forget.

Iorras Aontaithe are through to the last sixteen of the Connaght Cup with a 1-0 win at home to Galway Premier League outfit, St Bernard’s United, with a Brendan Nallen header in the 29th minute. The Galway side had the most of the play in the opening half with Erris having to produce some good defending with David Reilly and Neil Geraghty in excellent form.

But Iorras started to show their good form half way through the half with Henry Gaughan and Micky Togher pressing the Galway side defence and Erris were awarded a free out on the right, on 29 minutes, and the resulting deep cross from Mark Gilbert found David Reilly, who sent the ball back into the box, for Brendan Nallen to head past Dennis Farragher. But three minutes later both sides found themselves down to ten after red cards were produced. It was 1-0 at the break.

In the second half Erris were a complete contrast to their first half efforts and found themselves down to nine men in the 58th minute with a second yellow. St Bernard’s pushed forward looking for the equaliser but had no clear cut effort. Then Erris introduced Eamon McAndrew for Jonathan Donahue on 62 minutes, Eamon Carey for Diarmuid Healy on 72 minutes and Ivan Barrett on 80 minutes, but it remained 1-0 in the end. Good luck in the next round to all.

Iorras Aontaithe are drawn away to Galway side, Oughterard in the next round on March 10th.

THE CLUB APPOINTS NEW CHAIRMAN

Iorras Aontaithe/Erris United congratulates Micheál Dixon on been elected Club Chairman.

Micheál Dixon, driving the club forward in the future.

Micheál has been, both a Player, Committee member and was the Manager of the side that won the Super league back in 2003. Micheál was a formidable defender during his playing days with the Club and is currently the Player/ Manager of the Masters league side. He is wished every success and good will in his new roll.

CHAIRMAN STEPS DOWN, AT CLUB A.G.M.

The Chairman, stepping down after almost nine years in the hot seat.

Manchester United win the Premiership crown for the 13th time and have 13  league fixtures remaining, it most be a record in all regards and anyone who thinks differently is a —–?

Meanwhile, the Annual General Meeting of Iorras Aontaithe/Erris United FC was held recently in the Broadhaven Bay Hotel and the outgoing Chairman, Tom Reilly reflected on a satisfactory year for the Club, winning the Charity Shield at the start of the season and the U14 side achieving league glory.

 

Carne Nash Park, big changes happend both on and the pitch in that intervening time.

In his address he thanked the Officers and Committee for their commitment over the year plus all the Managers/Coaches for their time and commitment with the teams. He thanked the Club Sponsors/ Supporters and the public at large for supporting the Club fundraising efforts over the year. Thanks to all the Club members for their help and input into all of the Club fundraising ventures, Duck Race/ manning the stands August 15th and Heritage day , Card Games, Quiz nights etc . Thanks to Eamon and Geraldine, Management and Staff of the Broadhaven Bay Hotel for providing a room for the Club meetings over the year and in the past and also to Martin McIntyre, Clann Lir. The outgoing Youth Secretary Eric O’Reilly gave a very good report on under age activity at the club, with the U14 panel winning the Divisional shield. The outgoing Treasurer, Paul Reilly gave a very satisfactory account of the Club finances, bearing in mind the times we live in. The outgoing Secretary, Harry Reilly thanked everyone in his address but singled out the Assistant Treasurer,  Mary Teresa Barrett for her commitment to the Club, as she is taking time away from Club activities, but will remain on as Child Protection Officer. At the end of his address the outgoing Chairman announced he was stepping down after almost nine years as Chairman and in that time tremendous progress has happened at the Club both in infrastructure and in football success and this is down to the Clubs very forward and progressive thinking, both in the past and in the future, and he wished everyone at the club great success in this long journey.

GIRL POWER

Iorras Aontaithe/Erris United extends congratulation to the Girls of St Brendan’s College, Belmullet on capturing the Umbro FAI Schools Senior (B) Girls All-Ireland crown for the first time when they beat Ramsgrange Community School, New Ross at the Athlone IT Complex on a final score, 2-1.

St Brendan’s were ahead on 3 minutes when Kayleigh Winters slotted home with a lobbing effort from the edge of the area.  The lead was extended on 18 minutes when Michelle Doherty got inside the Ramsgrange defence and scored with great low driving shot from a tight angle.  But on the 28th minute Ramsgrange  pulled one back from a Shannon Doyle effort.

In the second half St Brendan’s continued to take the game to the opposition, but  the Wexford outfit pushed forward looking for the equalizer, but the St Brendan’s defence and Keeper, Joanne Padden were in good form, and especially in the 78th minute when Joanne was perfectly positioned to block a downward header from a corner. There was happy scenes at the final whistle from the team and the travailing supporters. Well done to all, it was a day of great success.
