Iorras Aontaithe/Erris United extends congratulation to the Girls of St Brendan’s College, Belmullet on capturing the Umbro FAI Schools Senior (B) Girls All-Ireland crown for the first time when they beat Ramsgrange Community School, New Ross at the Athlone IT Complex on a final score, 2-1.
St Brendan’s were ahead on 3 minutes when Kayleigh Winters slotted home with a lobbing effort from the edge of the area. The lead was extended on 18 minutes when Michelle Doherty got inside the Ramsgrange defence and scored with great low driving shot from a tight angle. But on the 28th minute Ramsgrange pulled one back from a Shannon Doyle effort. In the second half St Brendan’s continued to take the game to the opposition, but the Wexford outfit pushed forward looking for the equalizer, but the St Brendan’s defence and Keeper, Joanne Padden were in good form, and especially in the 78th minute when Joanne was perfectly positioned to block a downward header from a corner. There was happy scenes at the final whistle from the team and the travailing supporters. Well done to all, it was a day of great success.
