Iorras Aontaithe extended their lead at the top of the Super League at home to Snugboro on Saturday the 22nd. Iorras started the brighter and could have been two goals up after three minutes, but poor finishing let them down.
The visitors went ahead on 12 minutes, through Sean Curry, and David Colleran made it 2-nil in the 25th minute. Then Colin Stewart pulled one back on 30 minutes and Ivan Barrett levelled the proceedings 0n 42 minutes. It remained 2-2 at the break. In the second half Snugboro continued to pose a threat, but with the introduction of Sean Gaughan, Anthony Padden and Eamonn Mangan, Iorras began to wear the visitors down, and on 87 minutes Colin Stewart was fouled in the area, resulting in Snugboro’s Eamonn Conway been red carded, and Jimmy Tighe secured the three, very welcomed points, for Iorras with his penalty effort. With Ballina Town dropping points to Castlebar Celtic, this win puts Iorras four points clear at the top. This could have been a potential banana skin for Iorras, given the amount of changes Manager Michael S. Togher had to make due to absent players but it shows the great strength in depth in the squad. Well done everyone.TEAM- Enda Conroy, Neil Geraghty, Michael Meenaghan (Cap.), David Reilly, Robert Carey, Jimmy Tighe, Colin Stewart, Oisin Murphy, Stephen Nallen, Ivan Barrett, Garth O’Malley.
