Erris United Football Cub

An Club Sacair Iorrais Aontaithe Comortas Sacair Scoileanna Naisiunta Iorrais, urraithe ag Udaras Na Gaeltachta will be held on the 1st of April at the club ground between 10.30am and 2.00pm. Last year was the inaugural staging of the Comortas with a total of 16 National Schools from all over Erris participating and which was a great success. Belmullet N.S were the inaugural winners and Geesala N.S. winning the shield final.

Iorras Aontaithe have been drawn away to Fairview Rangers of Limerick in the quarter final of the F.A.I.Umbro Junior Cup, the winner of this clash will have home advantage in the semi-final. The full draw is as follows

Iorras Aontaithe continue their good form with a 2.2 draw with a strong Castlebar Celtic selection in a challenge game last Friday evening the 7th March. The Iorras squad had a good run-out with 19 players been used over the course of the game, Gareth O Malley and Mick T Togher getting on the score sheet. Team. Congratulations to Ronan Murray, Ipswich Town F.C.& Ireland International on receiving the Young Erris Person of the Year award as part of the Erris Person of the year awards which are Sponsored by Leading Provincial Newspaper the Western People in conjunction with the Belmullet/Erris Lions Club.Ronan went from playing Soccer on his front lawn to honing his skills at Iorras Aontaithe/Erris United Youth Academy before joining Ipswich Town F.C. were he is forging ahead on that long hard road on to Professional Football. Ronan is also establishing his mark in the Republic of Ireland International Youth set up, having at the end of 08, joined the Ireland U18 Squad having impressed at a younger level. Ronan’s family,neighbours,friends, Erris Community and all his former playing and coaching colleagues at Iorras Aontaithe/Erris United wish him continued success. If you meet Ronan on his brief visits home he will strike you as a well mannered unassuming shy young man. Ronan is an inspiration to all people in Erris, both young and old, and he has shown that you can succeed at the highest levels if you are prepared to dedicate yourself. The presentation to the Award recipients will take place on 20th March in The Broadhaven Bay Hotel. Tickets are available from Cuffe’s Centra Main St Belmullet.

Iorras Aontaithe would also like to congratulate Pat Gallagher, Ballycroy on been chosen, Erris Person of the Year. Pat is a outstanding Community Person of many many years and is well deserving of this accolade. It was announced tonight that Eric Reilly Player/Manager of the clubs senior side is to be awarded the Midwest Radio Edge Sport award for February 2009. The presentation of these awards will not take place until 2010 as there is an award recipient each month. The Edge awards honour the best sporting moments broadcast on Mid West radio each month.
