LUKE IS FOLLOWING IN HIS DAD’S FOOTSTEPS.

The SFAI U.12 Inter League Jim Cashin Cup Mayo, final score, 3-1 Roscommon

The Mayo Under 12 team maintained their 100% record in the Jim Cashin 12 Cup on Sunday last, 14th April with a hard earned victory over a gallant Roscommon team in round four of the SFAI inter league played in terrible conditions in Manulla.

Young Luke is showing his Dad's skill.

Roscommon started the brighter and were a goal up after 5 minutes, playing with a very strong wind at their back. Mayo initiated a response and through playing some good football, they were back on level terms after 20 minutes when Dylan Fell got onto a loose ball on the edge of the box and rounded the Roscommon defender and finished neatly in the bottom corner. Mayo were winning all the 50/50 balls in the centre of midfield and Jack O’Connor and Luke Dawson were causing Roscommon lots of problems in the wings. Despite the pressure from out wide, it was all square going in at the break.
In the second half Mayo introduced Luke O’Reilly and they started to get on top in all areas of the pitch. Playing with a strong wind at their back, Mayo had a number of chances to take the lead, particularly when Ronan Dervan went close with a well hit shot from close range but the Roscommon keeper was equal to his effort.
With 15 minutes remaining Luke O’Reilly showed some great skill by beating his man and striking an unstoppable shot into the bottom right hand corner to put the home side in front. Roscommon tried everything to get back into the game but they could not get the better of the Mayo defence. While Roscommon were chasing an equaliser, Mayo got their third goal with 10 minutes remaining and it was Luke 0’Reilly who was on target again scoring from close range. Mayo settled for the 3-1 win and it confirmed their top spot in their group.

Mayo now face Inishowen on the 27th April at home in the SFAI Jim Cashin Cup quarter final.

Later in the night, or should it be said- early morning, the group called in to the Clann where Mac supplied more light refreshments, with the Club Secretary coming in for special attention with probing questions. The next port-of-call was the the Lobster pot and the Night-club floor. (Their is no truth in the rumour that the Club Secretary is resigning)

IORRAS MASTERS ON THE DOUBLE

Category: UncategorizedThomas @ 10:33 pm

Kieran Lavelle opened the scoring for Erris with nice effort.

The Iorras Aontaithe Masters capped off a great Winter season of  football when they added the Masters Cup to the Masters League trophy on Wednesday night the 20th March with a 3-2 win in extra time against Manulla.

Martin McIntyre equalised for Iorras in extra time

Kieran Lavelle had Iorras in front shortly into the game with a well taken effort.

Gareth O'Malley captured the Masters Cup for Erris with a great goal.

Manulla continued to press for the equaliser but it remained 1-0 at the break. In the second half both sides had chances to score, but with two minutes remaining in the half, the equaliser come from the boot of the Manulla Keeper with a long kick-out which deceived the Erris Keeper and the ball ended up in the net, and the game ended 1-1.

THE COLD WIND DID BLOW – AND THAT IT DID

Category: UncategorizedThomas @ 9:53 pm

Iorras Aontaithe, will face Mervue United in quarter final.

Iorras Aontaithe are in the Quarter final of the Connaght junior Cup with a comfortable 0-4 away win to Galway side, Oughterard on Sunday 10th Match. The game was played in a very strong and very cold cross field wind, reminiscent of  Carne Nash Park. The home side started the brighter with Erris Keeper, Shane Nallan have to deal with a good header from a corner two minutes into the game.

The view is lovely, but can someone turn off that wind.

But in the 20th minute Erris went in front when Jonathan Donahue scored with good finish after some good build-up play from Mark Gilbert and Micky Togher. It remained 1-0 at the break and six minutes into the second half Shane Murphy made it 2-0 with Micky Togher the provider. Then 8 minutes later Erris scored their third when Brendan Nallan wiped in a good free out on the right to the fare post for David Reilly to head home.  Micky Togher rounded off a measurable afternoon for the Galway side when he scored the fourth goal for Erris.

Both teams observed a minutes silence before kick-off in memory of the late Colette Sweeney R.I.P.

MASTER CLASS

Category: UncategorizedThomas @ 11:29 pm

Congratulations to the Iorras Aontaithe Masters on winning the Masters league in Castlebar on the 6th March with a 2-2 draw against Urlaur United. It’s been a great league season for the Erris United greats. This draw was enough to secure the title for Manager, Micky Dixon and his saddle sore heroes and with just one league fixture remaining. Urlaur United made Erris fight all the way and were 1-0 in front at the break, but with goals from Eric O’Reilly and Stephan Carolan in the second half, the Master league crown was theirs for the second time.

A great achievement from everyone with lots of miles clocked up and a few more to come. A big turnout  of Supporters is expected to travel on Wednesday evening the 13th March and their game with Manulla and to see the Trophy been presented.

PANEL – Des Hefferan, Sean Walsh, Paul Reilly, Stephan Carolan, Martin McIntyre, Gareth O’Malley, Eric O’Reilly, Micky Dixon, Harry Reilly, Michael John Nallan.
