Iorras Aontaithe (B) got back to winning ways in the first round of the Touhy Cup (Divisional Trophy) at home to Castlebar Celtic (B), on Sunday May 1st, with a final scoreĀ Erris 3 Castlebar 1.
Erris were in front after just 5 minutes when John Coyle provided an excellent pass to Pat Ginnelly who slotted the ball home, just inside the area. Iorras could have added to the score line on the 7th and 9th minute when Gareth O’Malley found space, but shot wide and over the top with both chances.
In the closing minutes of the first half the Erris defence was probed by the visitors, with the best of these coming on 33 minutes when a Adam McGowan shot, tested the Erris Keeper, Harry Reilly from close range.
The half ended 1-nil to Iorras. When play resumed the visitors continued to pressure the home side, but 4 minutes into the half, Gareth O’Malley made it 2-nil, giving the Castlebar Keeper know chance with a close range effort, with Pat Ginnelly providing the pass. Then in the 68th minutes, substitute, Stephen Cawley, making a welcomed return, sealed the win with neat finish on the edge of the area. But ten minutes before full time, CastlebarĀ scored a penalty, when Paul Barrett was judged to have handled in the area.
The margin could have been more for Iorras in the final moments, with chances from Phelim Munnelly, Kevin Carey and Jason Boylan.
