The Annual General Meeting of Iorras Aontaithe/Erris United F.C. was held recently in the Broadhaven Bay Hotel. The out-going Chairman, Tom Reilly welcomed everyone. He congratulated the players and Management of the U16 side on winning the Divisional title and on reaching the Quarter-Final of the Connaught Shield. He congratulated the U18 on reaching the last 16 of the F.A. I. Youth Cup with a home draw against Galway Hib’s on the 25th of the month. The old former greats in the club got themselves involved in the newly formed Masters League which is played in Castlebar every Wednesday night and are currently making the headlines in their second season. The club also introduced an Academy for U8’s and for its first season is doing very well. He thanked the out-going Officers and Committee for their time, commitment and help over the year. Fund-raising is very important for any sporting organisation, and Erris United is no exception, thanking everyone for supporting the club in all of their fundraising efforts over the year. The club in 2011 is undertaking a number of developments at Carne Nash park, an Astro turf been one of these, thanks to everyone in this regard. During the year former youth squad member, Ronan Murray turned professional in his career at Ipswich Town F.C. and he is wished the best of luck in this regard and the Chairman thanked Youth Secretary, Eric O’Reilly for his tremendous work he had done over the years in monitoring the situation and also to Eoin Hand of the F.A.I. He thanked all the Sponsors for their continuing support, financial or otherwise over the year and to Eamon and Geraldine Padden, Management and staff of the Broadhaven Bay Hotel had been good to the Club in the past and over the year. He thanked Local Building Contractor, Kieran McDonnell in sponsoring a Defib and said that 13 members of the club were trained in its use by Brían MacSuibhne. The (B) team, unfortunately, had a disappointing season, but they will, hopefully, turn things around next time. The (A) side were the trail blazers in the Super league for a good part of the season but had to be content with a third place finish in the end. Manager Michael S. Togher, although disappointed, praised the player panel for their hard work. The out-going Secretary, Mr. Harry Reilly echoed a lot of the sentiments expressed by the Chairman and the youth Secretary, Eric O’Reilly gave a good report on youth matters. The Treasurer, Paul Reilly give a interesting report on the club finances, echoing continuing caution and saying, as example, Match Official costs for senior home games over the year was €4,500, one example of the many costs in running a junior soccer club in Mayo today. Deepest sympathies to all those who had suffered bereavement in the community over the year was also expressed .The Chairman finished by thanking all the Management of all the teams in the Club for their dedication, commitment and continuing interest in their roles.
