Iorras Aontaithe U18 progressed to the next round of the F.A.I. U18 cup at home to Charlestown Athletic in a 9 goal thriller played in lovely sunshine on Saturday afternoon 30th October
10 minutes into the game Vincent Sweeney (Iorras) had a good chance, but struggled to hit the target. On 16 minutes John Coyle opens the scoring for Iorras with a delightful half-volley. Then on 18 minutes John Coyle was unlucky not to grab his second, seeing his shot hit the cross bar. On 24 minutes Michael Corrigan (Charlestown) his ambitious shot goes wide. But three minutes later Corrigan opens the scoring for Charlestown from just outside the Iorras box. 35 minutes a tough mid-field battle as chances are few and far between. Then on 37 minutes Charlestown go in front from a Fergal Collegian effort. But on 42 minutes Iorras draw level when Killian Dixon hits a wonderful left footed strike to find the net. But just before half time Michael Corrigan makes it 2-3 going into the break for the visitors.Then three minutes into the second half Finbar Duffy puts Iorras back level at 3-3 with a lovely strike. Then on 52 minutes Cathal Barrett has Iorras in front with a great solo effort. The visitors again levelled the score when Niall Hunt scores a well struck shot. Sean Murphy, the Iorras keeper, had to get down well to control a loose ball. Then on 73 minutes Cathal Barrett (Iorras) sees his shot rebound off the post. By this stage of the proceedings both side are fighting for the winner. Then on 84 minutes Vincent Sweeney (Iorras) scores with a terrific left-footed half volley. Just before full time the Iorras keeper, Sean Murphy makes a great save as Charlestown puts rebound over the bar. Final score Iorras 5 Charlestown 4.
This was a very good second half display by Iorras with great goals in a very exciting game.
