SUPER LEAGUE AMBITIONS END FOR IORRAS

Category: UncategorizedThomas @ 8:48 pm

Super League champions, Ballina Town put a very big dent in any ambition that Iorras Aontaithe had in winning the Super league at a crowded Carne Nash Park on Sunday 22nd. Both sets of supporters were given a very entertaining encounter in a very tough physical game. Iorras were first to go in front on 23 minutes, with the first of three excellent free kicks from Brendan Nallen. But Brendan Lavelle had the visitors back level 5 minutes later and Mick Duffy made it 2-1 with a excellent header on 32 minutes. Then on 40 minutes Brendan Nallan scored with his second free kick, leaving the game level at half time.

Then 7 minutes into the second half Ballina went in front again with Brendan Lavelle scoring his second. Shane Nallan and Micky Togher were unlucky with their efforts on 54 and 63 minutes. Brendan Lavelle added his third on 66 minutes to leave it 2-4 but with 6 minutes left Brendan Nallan scored from his third free kick to end the match 3-4 in favour of the visitors.

In the end it was a valiant effort from Erris but a combination of profligacy in front of goal combined with clinical finishing the other end by Ballina Town brought to an conclusion the hopes for the title.
