Iorras Aontaithe (B) were pipped at the post by a late goal in the final minute of extra time against Claremorris in a very exciting Tuohy Cup final in Milebush Park, Castlebar on Sunday 25th July, final score 3-4 aet. Erris started the better and were in front on 13 minutes when Tom McAndrew scored from the edge of the area from a John Noel Flannery cross. Jason Boylan extended that lead three minutes later with a well placed header from a Tom McAndrew corner.
Claremorris had a number of chances to score in the opening half with the best of these on 32 minutes when Brian Gallagher cut inside Seamus O’Malley, but his effort went wide of the left post, and so it stayed 2-0 at half time to Erris. In the second half Claremorris started the brighter and they had the Iorras defence on the back foot at times and pulled one back on 57 minutes . Iorras Manager, Paul Reilly then made a number of changes, introducing Brendan McIntyre, Patrick Geoghegan and Damien Farrell but in the 88th minute Claremorris were awarded a penalty, which was harshly judged by the Referee, and Harry Reilly, the Erris keeper got down well to save the spot kick. Just before full time Claremorris levelled the score with Danny Patrick’s bicycle kick. In the first minute of extra time Jason Boylan had Erris in front with a simple tap in, but in the final minutes of the second half of extra time the Iorras keeper Harry Reilly had a nightmare moment when he let a shot slip through his hands, and the ball rolled across the line to level the game at 3-3. Then in the final minute, with Iorras pushing forward, Claremorris scored. It was a very disappointing end to a very exciting Cup final for the Erris (B) side and their Management team but they acquitted themselves well.
