Erris United got their title ambitions back on track at home to Westport United on Saturday evening the 26th. Iorras have had a nightmare time over the past number of games having exited two cup competitions plus dropping league points away to Ballina and Westport.
In the opening half Westport could have gone in front, when on 9 minutes the post denied a Ray McLaughlin free from the edge of the area and on 16 minutes Erris, Micky Togher’s effort was blocked. On 22 minutes Brendan Nallan had Erris in front with a header at the far post from a Jonathan Donohue corner. It remained 1-0 to Erris at the break. When play resumed Iorras were playing against the blustery conditions, but 11 minutes into the half, Jonathan Donahue made it 2-0 from a neat pass from Pat Barrett. The Iorras rear guard dealt well with Westport,s, Dave Cameron and Philip Keegan, who were threatening at every moment. But on 76 minutes Pat Barrett secured the three points for Iorras with a well taken shot from the edge of the area after a great pass from Micky Togher. It was a very good result for the home side, which answered the critics, to their league form and put Iorras back on top of the Super League. Paul Reilly had a very good game between the sticks, deputising for the injured Enda Conroy. Manager, Michael S. Togher was very impressed with the way the team preformed.TEAM- Paul Reilly, Kenny O’Connor, John Gaughan, Henry Gaughan, Niall Geraghty: Anthony Mills, Brendan Nallan, Pat Barrett, Sean Gaughan: Micky Togher, Jonathan Donoghue. SUBS- Gareth O’Malley 67 minutes for Jonathan Donahue. Stephen Nallan 87 minutes for Micky Togher and Michael Meeaghan 84 minutes for Sean Gaughan.
