Iorras Aontaithe breezed past Castlebar Celtic at Carne Nash Park in the Super League on Sunday 25th April, with a very good second half performance, winning 4-1. Celtic were in front after just 27 seconds with an excellent drive from Ronan O’Boyle, which stunned the home side.
But on 14 minutes Iorras were awarded a free, almost on the halfway line, inside their own area, and Henry Gaughan sent a long kick deep into the Celtic box, which had the Castlebar keeper, Connor Ward at sixes and sevens, the ball ran lose and Micky Togher was on hand to slot it home. Castlebar Celtic were always threatening but the Iorras defence stood firm. The game remained 1-1 at the break. In the second half Iorras imposed themselves more on the game and on the 65 minutes, Ivan Barrett had Erris in front with an excellent effort after great work from Micky Togher. Then three minutes later Micky Togher made it 3-1 and on the 82 minute, sub, Colin Stewart made it four just before full time. It was a very good display by Erris in the end, despite losing defender, John Gaughan shortly into the half with a ligament problem, which will keep him out of the game for some time. Final score, Iorras Aontaithe 4 Castlebar Celtic 1.
