Erris United Football Cub

Iorras Aontaithe secured a Semi-Final spot in the F.C.S. Cup (Divisional Trophy) away to Swinford on Saturday evening 30th with the final score, Swinford 1 Iorras 3.

Micky Togher had Erris in front on 24 minutes. It remained 1-nil at the break. In the second half Brendan Nallen made it 2-nil on 54 minutes, but, Swinford pulled one back 3 minutes later when Alan Carty scored from a corner.

Then on 76 minutes, John Cafferkey secured the Semi-Final spot, and scoring his first goal for his new club, with an excellent free kick from about 25 yards out.

Erris over all play was very good and Managers, Michael S. Togher and Martin McIntyre spoke very positively about the team result.

 

These two sides will meet again, in the league, on Saturday May 7th with a 6.30pm kick-off

One goal divided Iorras Aontaithe at home to Manulla in the Super League on Sunday 24th. New signing, Mark Gilbert had the ball in the back of the net five minutes into the game with a neat finish on the edge of the area. Final score, Erris United 1 Manulla 0.

Erris United are away next Saturday evening the 30th April in the first round of the F.C.S. Cup (Divisional Cup) to Swinford with a 6.30pm kick-off.

They will be making a return journey to face Swinford, again, this time in the Super league on May 8th.

 

Local derby games are always serious encounters at the best of times, and this evening  clash between Iorras Aontaithe (B) and Kilmore United in Premier Division (B) will be remembered, more so by the visitors with the final score, Iorras (B) 0 Kilmore Utd 1.  The football wasn’t exactly pretty, all through this encounter which was played in a blustery cold wind.  The only goal coming on 63 minutes when Kevin Fallen provided the pass, on the edge of the area, for James P. Doherty to slot passed Harry Reilly, the Iorras Keeper. Iorras (B) had their moments to level, but poor finishing frustrated their efforts.

Iorras (B) are away to Moy Villa on the 8th May in their next league fixture.

Iorras Aontaithe (B) secured their first three points away to Partry Athletic in Premier Division (B) on Sunday 17th final score Iorras (B) 3 Partry 1.

Iorras were a goal down after ten minutes of play but were back level on 30 minutes from the penalty spot, which Gareth O’Malley dispatched. In the second half, and on 51 minutes, Padraic Doherty put Erris in front with good finish from close range.

 

 

 

 

Then on 80 minutes the points were secured when Gareth O’Malley produced a cracking shot from all of 30 yards, a goal to remember from the veteran striker.

Their next League outing is against local rivals, Kilmore United on Saturday evening 23rd at Carne Nash Park and kick-off at 6.30pm

Manager of Ipswich Town, Paul Jewell has confirmed, on the Club website, that six more of his young players have been offered a new contract, of which Ronan Murray is one. Ronan is currently on loan at Torquay United until the end of the season.

Iorras Aontaithe got their first point on the board of the 2011 season in the Super League against arch rivals, Westport United at Care Nash Park on Saturday evening the 16th, final score, Iorras 2 Westport 2.

In the opening exchanges, Iorras can thank their Keeper, Enda Conroy for making three good saves from Vinny O’Malley, David Cameron and Danny Scahill.

 

 

 

But on 28 minutes the Erris Captain, Anthony Mills put the home side in front after a neat pass from Brendan Nallen that caught the Westport defence out and Mills made know mistake from close range.

The first half ended at 1-0. But when played resumed, Westport were back  level on the 65 minute when Vinny O’Malley headed home from a David Cameron cross . In the 80th minute Vinny O’Malley and David Cameron were both denied by the goalpost with their efforts. Then in the 85th minute, Liam Stanton put Westport ahead, through a crowded area. But on the 89th minute Micky Togher saved a point for Erris with an excellent goal from the edge of the box.

The Club has deferred it’s big 25 card game until the 5th November it was to take place on Thursday 21st.  The Club will be having it’s annual fundraising walk on Tuesday 24th May. It will start at the Club ground and finish at the club ground. The walk will begin at 6.30pm and sponsorship cards will be available, as and from, Tuesday 19th April from Club members and please support.
