IORRAS U16 MOVE CLOSER TO LEAGUE TITLE

Category: Uncategorized,YouthEric @ 8:47 pm

Iorras Aontaithe U16 are one win away from winning the Mayo division one league title after an 4.2 win over Ballyheane in an ill-tempered game in Carnenash on Monday evening. Goals from James Kelly, Cian Burke and a Paul Barrett double. Referee, Jimmy Donahue had a busy evening due to a number of unsavoury incidents over the course of the game and did very well in the circumstances. Iorras greater discipline was a major factor in the winning of the game. Iorras require 3 points from their last 3 games to win the title.  A victory, away to Manulla in their next league game on Monday August 30th, will secure the title, well done to all the boys.

TEAM: Sean,Murphy, Darren,Barrett, Eoin O’ Donoghue, Cian Burke, Brendan McGrath: Gary Boylan, James Kelly, Paul,Barrett(cpt), Kyle O’ Reilly, Tommy Conroy, Cathal Barrett, Ryan Gallagher, Shane McIntyre.

SUPER LEAGUE AMBITIONS END FOR IORRAS

Category: UncategorizedThomas @ 8:48 pm

Super League champions, Ballina Town put a very big dent in any ambition that Iorras Aontaithe had in winning the Super league at a crowded Carne Nash Park on Sunday 22nd. Both sets of supporters were given a very entertaining encounter in a very tough physical game. Iorras were first to go in front on 23 minutes, with the first of three excellent free kicks from Brendan Nallen. But Brendan Lavelle had the visitors back level 5 minutes later and Mick Duffy made it 2-1 with a excellent header on 32 minutes. Then on 40 minutes Brendan Nallan scored with his second free kick, leaving the game level at half time.

Brendan Nallan, free kick master

Then 7 minutes into the second half Ballina went in front again with Brendan Lavelle scoring his second. Shane Nallan and Micky Togher were unlucky with their efforts on 54 and 63 minutes. Brendan Lavelle added his third on 66 minutes to leave it 2-4 but with 6 minutes left Brendan Nallan scored from his third free kick to end the match 3-4 in favour of the visitors.

In the end it was a valiant effort from Erris but a combination of profligacy in front of goal combined with clinical finishing the other end by Ballina Town brought to an conclusion the hopes for the title.

TEAM- Enda Conroy, Kenny O’Connor, David Reilly, Neil Geraghty, Henry Gaughan: Anthony Mills, Pat Barrett, Chris Barrett, Brendan Nallan: Micky Togher, Shane Nallan. SUBS- Sean Gaughan foe Shane Nallan 58 Minutes. Michael Meeaghan for Henry Gaughan 75 minutes and Gareth O’Malley for Kenny O’Connor 70 minutes.

On Saturday evening 21st Tom McAndrew scored the only goal for Iorras Aontaithe (B) to kept their hopes alive of staying in the Premier Division with good home win over Ballinrobe Town, final score Iorras (B) 1 Ballinrobe 0.

MILLS MOMENT OF MAGIC

Category: UncategorizedThomas @ 5:21 pm

A great first half goal from Anthony Mills was one of the memorable moments from Iorras 6-0 demolition of S.&F. United at blustery (with sudden showers, unwelcomed)  Carne Nash Park on Sunday 8th in the Super league. The goal feast began on 9 minutes when the home side were awarded a penalty, and Brendan Nallan duly dispatched.

Anthony Mills, a goal to remember

On 36 minutes Anthony Mills scored with a great top drawer effort from 35 yards which hit off the under side of the cross bar into the goal. It had the home supporters talking as the half finished 2-0.

Then two minutes into the second half Pat Barrett cut inside  the S.&F. defence to score with a great finish. On 53 minutes Brendan Nallan grabbed his second, after good build up play from Micky Togher. Then substitute, Gareth O’Malley scored on 65 minutes, again Micky Togher producing the killer pass. The nightmare for the visitors was compounded with an 81 minutes Shane Burke OG,  a not to remember pass back. Final score, Iorras Aontaithe 6 S.&F. United 0. An excellent display by the home side with good support play all round.  Erris United are away to Fahy Rovers on the 14th August kick-of 6.30pm

Meanwhile, on Saturday evening 7th Iorras (B) secured three valuable points at home to Clew Bay United in their Premier Division survival battle with 2-0 win. Two excellent goals each from Tom McAndrew and John Noel Flannary, in the second half secured the win. The (B) side are away to Crossmolina on the 15th August kick-of 2.00pm
