ERRIS RECLAIM TOP SPOT

Category: UncategorizedThomas @ 11:46 pm

Erris United got their title ambitions back on track at home to Westport United on Saturday evening the 26th. Iorras have had a nightmare time over the past number of games having exited two cup competitions plus dropping league points away to Ballina and Westport.

Erris United, very good display.

In the opening half Westport could have gone in front, when on 9 minutes the post denied a Ray McLaughlin free from the edge of the area and on 16 minutes Erris, Micky Togher’s effort was blocked. On 22 minutes Brendan Nallan had Erris in front with a  header at the far post from a Jonathan Donohue corner. It remained 1-0 to Erris at the break.  When play resumed Iorras were playing against the blustery  conditions, but 11 minutes into the half, Jonathan Donahue made it 2-0  from a neat pass from Pat Barrett. The Iorras rear guard dealt well with Westport,s, Dave Cameron and Philip Keegan, who were threatening at every moment. But on 76 minutes Pat Barrett secured the three points for Iorras with a well taken shot from the edge of the area after a great pass from Micky Togher.

Carne Nash Park, always a testing venue.

It was a very good result for the home side, which answered the critics, to their league form and put Iorras back on top of the Super League.  Paul Reilly had a very good game between the sticks, deputising for the injured Enda Conroy.   Manager, Michael S. Togher was very impressed with the way the team preformed.

TEAM- Paul Reilly, Kenny O’Connor, John Gaughan, Henry Gaughan, Niall Geraghty: Anthony Mills, Brendan Nallan, Pat Barrett, Sean Gaughan: Micky Togher, Jonathan Donoghue. SUBS- Gareth O’Malley 67 minutes for Jonathan Donahue. Stephen Nallan 87 minutes for Micky Togher and Michael Meeaghan 84 minutes for Sean Gaughan.

BALLINA END IORRAS UNBEATEN RUN.

Category: UncategorizedThomas @ 7:31 pm

The unbeaten, Super League run of Iorras Aontaithe, finally come crashing down at the feet of title holders Ballina Town on Sunday 13th June, with a final score, 4-1.

Testing times for Iorras Aontaithe

The home side started the brighter and the Iorras back four were on the back foot at times. But against the run of play, Iorras went in front, when a Brendan Nallan free, close to the halfway line, was headed down by John Gaughan to Micky Togher who side footed the ball home on 31 minutes.  Iorras continued foreword with Micky Togher and Colin Stewart coming close. But just before half time Ballina could have levelled, when they clipped the cross bar on 43 minutes but Iorras had the advantage at the break. Three minutes into the second half Ballina levelled, when they were awarded a penalty, it was a major turning point. Iorras were pushing forward with, again, Micky Togher coming close on 52 and 65 minutes. But Ballina added three more goals on 73, 75 and 85 minutes to secure the three points. The referee come in for harsh criticism from Erris supporters and Players at the final whistle.

Iorras will have to pick themselves up for their away clash on Thursday day evening 17th, to Westport United in the Connaught Gold Cup round 2, (This game will be played in Milebush Park, Castlebar, 7pm ko). On Saturday evening 19th they play Swinford away in the Westaro Cup, 7.pm ko.  Testing times, indeed. The (B) Team crashed to a 2-0 defeat away to Ballinrobe Town on Saturday evening, 12th June. The (B) side are at home to Ballyglass in Premier Division on the 20th June with a 2.30.ko.

Back to the drawing board, for the Manager.

TEAM– Enda Conroy,Michael Meeaghan, Neil Geraghty, John Gaughan, Robert Carey: Anthony Mills, Anthony Padden, Brendan Nallan, Gareth O’Malley: Micky Togher, Colin Stewart.  SUBS- Stephen Nallan for Anthony Padden (65 minutes).
