OUT ON THE TOWN AT CHRISTMAS

Category: UncategorizedThomas @ 12:01 pm

Six of the best eleven ?

Six of the best eleven ?

The Club had its annual Christmas get together on Sunday evening 20th. Club Officers, Committee members and Senior players had a night on the town to reflect on the year past and the battle ahead. It was great to see former club greats join in on the party atmosphere, hero’s of the past, who are now involved in the Masters League. The big talking points was the new Masters league and the new found interest that it is creating and  naming  the best eleven, that has played for the Club over the past 25 years.

If you would like to name your best eleven please do so in the comment section and the reason why the player is included. Iorras Aontaithe/Erris United would like to wish all its members/supporters/sponsors and to all the over 50 thousand visitors to the club website over the past year from home and abroad, a very happy Christmas and prosperous new year.

HARRY TO THE RESCUE FOR THE SADDLE SORE HEROS

Category: UncategorizedThomas @ 2:45 pm

Iorras Aontaithe over 35 got back to winning ways in the masters league at Milebush park against Glenisland United on Wednesday night 16th in a thrilling encounter. Tom Gruddy had Iorras in front with a well placed header in the opening half and that’s how it  stayed at the break 1-nil. In the second half Iorras found themselves 2-1 down, but two quick goals from Eric Reilly restored the lead. Then Glenisland equalized, with the clock ticking down, but then the  saddle sore hero, Harry Reilly came off his goal line to secure the three points much to the delight of everyone. Ride on boys.

DEFEAT FOR IORRAS IN CONNAUGHT CUP ROUND 3

Category: UncategorizedThomas @ 2:02 am

At sun drenched, but cold, Carnenash Park Iorras Aontaithe were knocked out of the Connaught cup by Galway side, Colemanstown United. Iorras were 3-nil down at half-time. In the second half Garth O’Malley started the come back on 52 minutes followed by two quick goals by Brendan Nallan and his bother Shane on 62 and 64 minutes. But with the clock ticking down the visitors regained the lead on 78 minutes. The best chance Iorras had, to bring the game back level, fell to Shane Nallan, when finding himself one on one with the visiting keeper on the edge of the six yard box, but his effort clipped the cross bar in the closing minutes. Final score, Iorras 3 Colemanstown 4. Over all this was a very disappointing effort by the home side, especially in the first half.

Iorras Aontaithe will have to put this disappointment behind them with there next home game  against Manulla in the 4th Round of the F.A.I. Junior Cup on Sunday 20th with the prospect of a home game in the next round v Carrick United of Waterford.  kick-off is at 2.00pm.

TEAM. Enda Conroy, Kenny O’ Connor, Stephen Nallan, Liam Donohue, Anthony Mills, Brendan Nallan, Chris Barrett, Ivan Barrett, Garth O’Malley, Michael Meeaghan, Sean Gaughan. SUBS. Eamon McAndrew for Anthony Mills, Shane Nallan for Kenny O’Connor and Stephen Carolan for Michael Meeaghan.

OVER 35 LEAVE IT LATE TO COME FROM BEHIND

Category: UncategorizedThomas @ 12:41 am

Passion, speed, tenacity and patience  was the order of the night at Milebush Park on Wednesday night the 2nd December in the Masters league for Iorras Aontaithe over 35 v S.&F. United with Eric O’Reilly scoring late to secure the point. Iorras dominated the opening half and were unlucky with efforts from Eric and Harry Reilly. In the Masters League ,which is proving very popular, the pace of the game is frighting at times with 25 minutes aside. It was nil-nil at the break but shortly into the second half a shot that deceived Pat Walker, the Iorras keeper, gave S&F the lead  which was totaly against the run of play. But Iorras never gave up with good efforts from Micky Dixon, Eamon Dixon and Anthony Duffy getting stuck in to their markers at every moment. But in the closing seconds of the game Iorras combined well in a good move to leave Eric the glory of salvaging the point. Over all it was a fine team effort on the night. The photo you’ve been waiting for. Back row L/R Christy Cawley (mentor), Eamon Dixon, Harry Reilly, Paddy Murphy, Martin Boylan, Micky Dixon, Tom Gruddy, Anthony Duffy, Michael John Nallan, Michael S. Togher (Manager). Front L/R. Kenneth Lynskey,  Eric O’Reilly, Pat Walker, Vincent McGrath, Gerry Lavelle.
