IORRAS SAY BYE BYE TO CONNAUGHT CUP

Category: UncategorizedThomas @ 9:26 pm

County Sligo’s beautiful scenery was an inspiration for Yeats, but Iorras Aontaithe failed to find inspiration against Sligo Town side, City United, in the 4th round of the Connaught Cup on Sunday 25th January. 19 minutes into the game indecisive defending by Iorras gifted City the lead but on 29 minutes Iorras were handed a life line when Jonathon Donohue was foaled in the area, but the City Keeper saved the resulting penalty by Player-Manager, Eric Reilly. Then on 42 minutes City United made it 2 0 going into the break. After the break Iorras started the second half with more urgency in their play, and with the introduction of Henry Gaughan and Micky T. Togher, Iorras increased pressure on the home side. But on 79 minutes City United made it 3 0, and with 5 minutes remaining, Henry Gaughan headed home a corner for Iorras to make the final score 3-1. This is the first defeat for Iorras in 14 games but they will have to pick themselves up for their next battle this time against Pike Rovers on next Sunday 1st February at home in the F.A.I. Junior Cup 5th round. Photo shows the starting 11.

Bye Bye Dublin Bus

Category: UncategorizedThomas @ 8:48 pm

Iorras Aontaithe made hard work of their 5th round F.A.I. Junior Cup clash at home to Dublin Bus on Sunday 4th January. Iorras Aonthaithe were in bad luck just into the start of the game when defender, Paul Reilly was injured and was substituted. Iorras were two goals down heading to half time when Jonathan Donohue was fowled in the Dublin penalty area and the resulting penalty was converted by Player-Manager, Eric Reilly, which left the score line reading 1-2. In the second half Iorras continued their revival with continued pressure on the visitor’s goal with numerous chances to score, even Iorras keeper, Shane Nallan almost scored with one of his long kick outs. But on 75 minutes John Gaughan powered the ball home from just inside the area after the Dublin side failed to clear.
