MATCH POSTPONED.

The Super League game this Sunday 18th, Iorras Aontaithe away to Westport United, has been postponed due to a bereavement in Westport. Also on Sunday, Erris United (B) are at home to local rivals, Kilmore United with a 12 noon kick-off.  Iorras will be hoping to pick up their first three points of the new season after the disappointing start away to Partry Athletic, but as local derbies go, it will be a competitive encounter.

BELMULLET N.S. MAKE IT THREE IN A ROW

The Iorras Aontaithe Comortas Sacair Scoileanna Náisiúnta 2010 was held in glorious sunshine at the club ground in Carne Nash on Wednesday 14th April. The event was Sponsored by O’Donoghues Bakery/An Builin Blasta.

Scoil Náisiúnta Béal An Mhuirthead made it three in a row beating Scoil Náisiúnta Gleann A Chaisil in the final of the Shield, 4-1. In the Plate final, Scoil Náisiúnta Ceathrú Thaidgh beat Scoil Náisiúnta Eachleime 5-0. Fifteen Schools took part in this years competition with some great football played. Iorras Aontaithe would like to thank The Sponsors, all the National schools and their Teachers and minders, all the Referees, Club members and especially  Des O’ Connor for making the event enjoyable for everyone. Congratulations to Ryan O’Donoghue, Lakefield on winning a Irish Boxing title at 33kg (Boys one) on a score of 8-2 at the Irish Amateur Boxing Championships in the National Stadium recently. Ryan, boxing out of the Golden Gloves Boxing club in Belmullet, this is the second Irish title for the Club. It is Ryan’s third title at this weight having won at County level in February and a Connaught title in March and in between all of this Ryan is involved at U12, U13 and U14 football at Erris United/Iorras Aontaithe plus he also plays Gaelic Football, he certainly is a very active young boy. Erris United and all his playing buddy’s at the club, says well done Ryan.

MIXED FORTUNES FOR IORRAS ON FIRST DAY.

There was mixed fortunes for Erris United on the first day in the 2010 Mayo League Season. Iorras Aontaithe (B) were away to Partry Athletic and the clash resulted in a 3 -0  defeat. But the (A) side and Manager, Michael S. Togher got off to a winning start in the Super League at home to Ballyheane. In the first half Erris had the most of the exchanges with Henry Gaughan threatening on eight minutes and Anthony Mills hitting the post on 11 minutes.

But it wasn’t until the 27th minute when Erris went in front when Pat Barrett was perfectly placed to slot home from close range after a neat cross from Shane Nallan. On 43 minutes, Erris Keeper, Enda Conroy did well to save in a goal mouth incident.

It remained 1-0  at half time. In the second half, Ballyheane imposed themselves more on the game and had Erris on the back foot at times, but the Iorras defence played well.  Erris ended the game with ten men when, on 81 minutes, Brendan Nallan was given a straight red for a bone crunching tackle. The new Manager was happy with how his side preformed. Final score, Iorras 1 Ballyheane 0.

Windy conditions for Des in the office

The Erris United/Iorras Aontaithe, Comortas sacair Scoileanna Naisiunta Iorrais 2010 will be held on Wednesday 14th April 10.00am-2.00pm. Last years winners were Belmullet N.S. and Dromgallagh N.S with 16 National Schools competing. The weather conditions were good on the day, but windy. This years competition is sponsored by O’Donoghues Bakery.

PRE-SEASON TRAINING, GOING WELL

Iorras Aontaithe/Erris United pre-season training is continuing in preparation for the new Mayo league season which begins on April 11th. New Manager of the Super League side, Michael S. Togher has announced that Martin McIntyre and Rob Turner will be part of his back room team. Its great to see Martin and Rob back in the club again, as there experience will prove invaluable as the season pans out.  Erris United (B) played Inver United in a pre-season friendly recently, the game ending one all.

CONGRATULATIONS, SHANE

Congratulations to Shane McIntyre (60kg) who claimed his third Irish title,  and his first for the Golden Gloves boxing club  in Belmullet  following a thrilling 4-0 verdict over 2009 European Schoolboy Championships bronze medallist Victor Medveduic at the Boy & Girl 4 National finals at National  Stadium in Dublin. Shane boxed  superbly through out, he has, to his credit,  two Irish underage titles boxing for the Geesala BC, commanding a 2-0 advantage going in the final round against the skilful Tramore BC club-man before adding another two points to his total to seal a deserved victory.

Shane is a prominent member of the Erris United U14 side and is wished every success in the future.

IORRAS U13s IN PLAYOFF FOR PREMIER DIVISION TITLE.

Iorras Aontaithe u13s are involved in a 3 way play-off with Manulla and Castlebar Celtic for the u13 premier division title after recording a superb 2.1 over Castlebar Celtic in Carnenash last weekend. All three teams only lost one game each, over the course of the league. Best of luck to the lads in the play-off.
