THE END OF THE LINE

The 2012 season was brought to a close this afternoon, with the (A) side going down 3-2 away to Manulla, Eamon McAndrew grabbing two for Iorras, and as for the (B) side, they recorded a 5-1 away win to Westport (B), with goals from Eric O’ Reilly (3) Kyle O’Reilly (1) and Brendan Doherty (1). Unfortunately there overall league performance this season was not enough to save them from relegation, and life in Division one for 2013.

“MAKE MINE A SHORT”

Iorras Aontaithe who were feeling under the weather against Westport United, missing from team shot is Henry Gaughan who was on the phone.

With just one game remaining in the Super League, Iorras were a bit under the weather in their home clash with Westport on Sunday 30th September, suffering  the after-effects of  a 21st Birthday party (Sean Gaughan). Congratulations goes to Sean on getting the key of the door.

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS

Congratulations and well done to the Erris United/ Iorras Aontaithe  U14 side on been crowned league champions winning 8-1 away to local rivals, Bangor Hib’s on Wednesday evening the 19th September. Their Managers, Paul Reilly and Phelim Munnelly are to be congratulated also for their efforts over the season. The side recorded nine wins from nine in their league run. They will be presented with the Shield in the their next home fixture against Ballinrobe Town.

MURRAY HAT-TRICK, AS ERRIS ENDS BALLYGLASS UNBEATEN LEAGUE RUN.

Iorras Aontaithe U14 ended Ballyglass unbeaten league run at Carne Nash on Saturday afternoon the 8th September in a top of the table encounter, final score , Erris 7 Ballyglass 2

Iorras had the greater goal difference going into this clash. The home side went in front shortly into the half with a Darren Lennon effort on 37 minutes, but  Ballyglass were back level 8 minutes later when Oisin Mullen got past his maker. Padraig Ruddy restored the lead for Erris 7 minutes later slotting home from a Dara Murray cross. Then just before the end of the half, Dara Murray made it 3-1 for the home side.  In the second half, Dara Murray scored his second goal, then Darren Lennon was foiled in the area and Dáiti O’Donohue scored from the resulting penalty.   In the final minutes of the encounter, Dara Murray score his third (his hat-trick) then Ballyglass scored their second from a Connor McHugh penalty, but Brain Keane added another for Iorras just before the final whistle.

These two sides will lock horns on Wednesday evening the 12th September. RESULT- Ballyglass 1 Iorras Aontaithe 3.

Erris have two games remaining and require one point to secure the league crown for 2012.

FEEDING FRENZY

As the clock ticks down to the 23rd and Mayo’s encounter with Donegal, the feeding frenzy for tickets will intensify. Iorras Aontaithe continued their goal frenzy away to S&F United on Saturday evening the 8th September in the Super League, final score, S.&F. United 1 Erris United 5.

Iorras were well in control at the half way stage, with goals from Mark Gilbert, Micky Togher and Jason Boylan and two from Sean Gaughan in the second half. The one goal from the home side came from a penalty.

Iorras Aontaithe have two Super league outings remaining, away to Manulla at the end of September and at home to Champions, Westport United on the 7th October.

IORRAS U14 SECURE POINTS IN LOCAL DERBY

Iorras Aontaithe U14 continue the chase for Divisional honers in a very exciting local derby against Bangor Hib’s on Wednesday evening the 4th September, final score Erris 7 Bangor 4.

Erris United were 2-0 up at the break with goals from Padraig Ruddy and Dáití O’Donohue but in the second half Iorras were complacent in defending which allowed Bangor take the lead with goals from Adam Carabine (2) and Matthew Healy and Micky Conroy. But Erris, in the end, showed their good league form with further goals from Dáití O’Donohue, his second, Aryan Reilly, Michael Keane, Dara Murray and Brian Keane to secure the points. Managers, Paul Reilly and Phelim Munnelly were happy with the result.

SIX OF THE BEST

Iorras Aontaithe are through to the final of the Connaught Gold Shield, winning in comprehensive style, final score Manulla 0 Iorras Aontaithe 6 on Saturday evening the 1st September.

Anthony Mills, a goal each side of the half for Iorras.

With two first half goals from Micky Togher and one from Anthony Mills before the break. In the second half one further goal from Anthony Mills and one each from Jason Boylan and Eamon McAndrew. Iorras will face Westport United (B) in the final after they won on penalty’s against Conn Rangers. Well done Erris.

ITS GREAT QUACK

Its a photo finish.

The annual Club Duck race was held on the evening of  the 18th and it was certainly one to remember, with a large number of ducks making a dash for freedom over the boom, faster then a group of turkey’s running from christmas.

Freedom at last.

The results are: 1st Leanne Harraghy, (Stephens Girl), Bangor (500 Euro). 2nd (100 Euro) Peter Keane, Toorglass. 3rd (100 Euro) Cassie Gaughan, Tipp. 4th (50 Euro) Linda Hefferon, Tipp. The last duck home was for Padraig Dixon, Ardmore (50 Euro).

On Sunday night the 12th the local Boxing club, the Golden

Rosaleen Tina Turner Lally, making her grand entrance.

Gloves held their White-collar fight-night in the Broadhaven Bay Hotel. This is the second year the Club has held this very enjoy event.

Three of the 20 local celebrity’s who were involved on the night were from Erris United, Micky “Mr T.” Togher, Eamon “Spider” McAndrew and Shortie Sean Gaughan and Rosaleen “The Rocker” Lally. Like last year, there was a big attendance which raises funds for the Golden Gloves Building development.

TOP FLIGHT SECURED

Iorras Aontaithe secured their Super league status for next season with a win at home to Ballina Town on Sunday 12th August, final score , Erris 1 Ballina 0.

Henry Gaughan, his penalty gave Erris the three points.

A penalty on 25th minutes by the Man of the Match, Henry Gaughan gave Erris the points.  TEAM PANEL- Shane Nallan, Michael Meeaghan, Neil Geraghty, Henry Gaughan, Diarmid Healy: Anthony Mills, Pat Barrett, Stephen Nallan, Sean Gaughan: Brendan Nallan, Mark Gilbert. Unfortunately the nightmare continues for Iorras (B) and their relegation battle in Premier Division (B) away to table toppers, Moyvilla on Saturday evening the 11th August,  final score Moyvilla 8 Iorras (B) 1 .

Erris (B) went in front with a Kyle O’Reilly effort shortly into the game but they were 2-1 down at the half way point, but in the second half lady luck was not around.
