A GAME OF TWO HALF’S

Category: UncategorizedThomas @ 10:03 pm

It was a games of two half’s as Iorras Aontaithe (B) lost out to Bangor Hib’s in the semi-final of the Touhy Cup, with the final score, Iorras (B) 2 Bangor Hib’s 3.

Iorras Aontaithe (B), poor second half.

The home side were 2-0 in front going in at the break thanks to Jason Boylan on 15 minutes and 41 minutes. But shortly into the second half the visitors started the come back with a Brian McHale penalty on 56 minutes. Then on 71 minutes Darren McManamon levelled the score for Bangor Hib’s from a Andy Lavelle pass. But on 76 minutes Bangor were awarded a free about 30 yards out on the left and Brian McHale’s kick found Cormac Murphy who slotted home to give the visitors the lead and a place in the Cup final. Iorras (B) can blame their poor defending and lack of conviction (along with a questionable penalty decision) in the second half for their defeat.

FCS CUP FINAL FOR IORRAS

Category: UncategorizedThomas @ 6:23 pm

Iorras Aontaithe put in an excellent display in the FCS Cup (Divisional Trophy) Semi-Final at home to Claremorris on Sunday 5th June, final score, Iorras 3 Claremorris 0.

Erris United, in Divisional cup final

Brendan Nallen scored on 13 minutes with an excellent finish just inside the area. Then Mark Gilbert made it 2-0 with a very good individual effort from a tight angle on 15 minutes. Claremorris, for their efforts, were well controlled by the Iorras rear guard with the visitors, Paul Ryan, David Grant and Mark Doble having a very frustrating afternoon. It remained 2-0 at half time.

Iorras had the advantage of the wind in the  second half and they continued, with good defending and good play going forward.   Then on 54 minutes John Cafferkey made it 3-0 with a top drawer effort from all of 30 yards-Lionel Messi would be proud. Claremorris had their moments but Ivan Barrett was untroubled in the Iorras goal, deputising for Enda Conroy who was on his honeymoon. Over all, a very good team effort. Well done everyone. Erris United will now face Westport United in the final

TEAM- Ivan Barrett, Sean Gaughan, David Reilly, Neil Geraghty, Michael Meeaghan: Anthony Mills (c), Anthony Padden, John Cafferkey, Brendan Nallen: Mark Gilbert, Micky Togher.
