Connaught Cup last 16 for Iorras

Iorras Aontaithe booked their place in the last 16 of the Connaught Cup at a very cold Carnenash Park on Sunday 30th November. On a score line of 3-2 against Sligo side, Strand Celtic. Eric Reilly scored twice, one from the penalty spot, and the other with a high lobbing ball over the head of the Strand Celtic Keeper with the third coming from the boot of Jonathon Donohue. This was a very good performance from Iorras Aontaithe and good luck in the next round everyone.

Team– Shane Nallon, David Reilly, Paul Reilly, Neil Geraghty, Liam Donohue, Pat Barrett, Brendan Nallon, Jonathon Donohue, Kenny O’Connor, Garth O’Malley, Eric Reilly. Subs used– S. Nallon for Kenny o’Connor and J. O’Donnell for Garth O’Malley.

Next Sunday the 30th November will see Iorras Aontaithe entertain Silgo side, Strand Celtic in the Connaught Cup round 3 with Kick off at 2.00pm at Carnenash park.

Bye Bye Straide & Foxford United

Iorras Aontaithe are through to the 5th round of the F.A.I. Junior Cup, and the open round draw, beating Straide & Foxford United by 3 goals to 2 at a very wind and rain swept Carnenash park on Sunday 23rd November. The home side were 2 goals down at the end of the first half but warm hot tea and coco prepared by Micheal S. Togher had Iorras in fighting form going into the second half. Garth O’Malley started the come back with a well taken goal on 60 minutes with Brendan Nallen making it 2 all on 73 minutes with great goal from 30 yards and then 6 minutes later Jonathon Donohue was fouled inside the area with the resulting penalty well taken by Eric Reilly. The weather conditions in which the game was played was very bad at times with Referee, Damien McGrath stopping play for 10 minutes due to bad rain shower. This was a great performance and fight back by Iorras Aontaithe and good luck in the next round.

Iorras Aontaithe U12 progress to 5th round

Iorras Aontaithe U12 side have progressed to the 5th round of the Connaught Cup on Saturday 15th November at Carnenash beating Galway side, Tuam Celtic on a score line of 3-2 with goals from Jake Burn (2) and a penalty from Kyle Reilly. It was a tough encounter for the home side having been a goal down at one stage but over all it was a good display. Good luck everyone in the next round.

F.A.I. 4th Round

On Sunday 23rd November, Iorras Aontaithe will take on S&F United in the 4th round of the F.A.I Junior Cup at Carnenash. Newly promoted S&F United will have happy memories of their last visit to Carnenash having put Iorras out of the League cup during the summer months. Player-Manager, Eric Reilly hopes to have a full panel to pick from for this encounter and the visiters will not have it easy. The winner goes into the All-Ireland open draw. The game kicks off at 2.00pm.

Jonathen stars in Connaught cup win

Congratulation to Jonathen Donoghue who played a staring role in the F.A.I. U17 Inter-Provincial Tournament held in Dublin recently scoring two of the 6-nil score line against Ulster in the final. Jonathan is a very versatile player, being in the U18 side and also the Super League team.

Under age update.

The U18 side has started the season very well winning 8-2 v Ballisodare in the Connaught Shield and also beating Ballinrobe 6-3 away in the F.A.I. Cup. The U18 league season begins on November 22nd. Jonathan Donohue, Jack Deane and Micky T Togher have been selected on the Mayo U18 squad for upcoming games.

The U14 league gets under way on Saturday November 22nd with fixtures to be released.

The U12 are at home to Tuam Celtic in the Connaught Cup 3rd round on the weekend of the 15th/16th November.

The U10 season finished recently with a  very exciting mini league with A C Milan coming out on top in a league that went down to the last games. All players received medals and refresments at the prize giving at end of league.

The Club would like to thank all the parents and looking forward to seeing you all for the 2009 season.

“Bye Bye Snogboro”

“They came, They saw and they kicked some ass” Iorras Aontaithe ended any interest, Snogboro United had, in progressing to the 4th round of the F.A.I junior cup on Sunday 2nd November. This away fixture was a ill-tempered affair with know fewer then 11 yellow cards and one red. With goals from Eric Reilly and Stephen Carolan it was enough to secure a 4th round home draw on the 16th November.
