MANULLA HIT FOR SIX

Category: UncategorizedThomas @ 4:39 pm

Iorras Aontaithe bounced back form their recent draw away to Swinford with a 6-0 win over Manulla at home in the Super league on Sunday 18th July.

Brendan Nallan, in top form

Brendan Nallan was like a rash all over the Manulla defence for the greater part of this clash, and by half time he had Erris going in 3-0 up, scoring two from play and one from the penalty spot.

Shane Nallan, denied his hat trick by the goal post.

In the second half Erris continued their onslaught with Brendan scoring on 50 minutes and two minutes later Shane Nallan made it 5-0. Manulla, for their part, were will marshalled by the Iorras defence. Shortly into the half, Manager, Michael S. Togher introduced Chris Barrett, Neil Geraghty and Kenny ‘Connor.  Then just before full time Shane Nallan finished the rout with his second on 88 minutes. Chris Barrett, making a welcomed return to the squad.

IORRAS (B) GIFT POINTS TO CUP FINAL OPPOINTS

Category: UncategorizedThomas @ 6:28 pm

In  a dress rehearsal for the Tuohy Cup Final on the 25th July, Iorras Aontaithe (B) locked horns with their cup opponents,  Claremorris in the Premier Division at Carne Nash Park on Sunday 11th July and they gifted the three points to the visitors in a four minute period in the second half which was reminiscent of a scene from a Laurel and Hardy sketch,  with a final score, 4-2.

Brian Gallagher had Claremorris in front on 8 minutes and on 31 minutes Claremorris were denied a second by the goal post, but just before half time, Iorras were awarded a penalty when Sean O’Donnell was fouled and Padraig Doherty scored from the spot kick.

Jason Boylan, great goal.

The second half had no sooner started, when Jen Varley had Claremorris back in front when Iorras Keeper, Harry Reilly got down late to save his effort. Then four minutes later Iorras were back on level terms when Jason Boylan produced a great shot from 30 yards but the young man’s joy was short leaved when on 68 minutes, he was harshly red carded by Referee, Pat Foley.  Then on 75 and 78 minutes, Laurel & Hardy defending by Iorras allowed Kevin Costello and Mark Doble to seal the points for Claremorris and just before full time, Player-Manager, Paul Reilly was unfortunate to be shown a second yellow card. Not a very good dress rehearsal, for the home side, with the Cup final in two weeks time.

TEAM- Harry Reilly, Paul Reilly, Vincent McGrath, Robert Carey, Tom Duffy: John Noel Flannery, Stephen Nallan, Padraig Doherty, Stephen Cawley, Jason Boylan, Sean O’Donnell. Sub- Shane Nallan for Tom Duffy on 62 minutes.

Anthony Mills

Swinford went in front on six minutes but Iorras were back on level terms with a Micky Togher effort four minutes later. Erris could have gone in front on the 18th minute but Gareth O’Malley’s effort shot wide of the post. Then just before half time Jonathan Donohue was substituted with an ankle injury which could see him out of the game for some time.

Micky Togher

IORRAS (B) IN TUOHY CUP FINAL

Category: UncategorizedThomas @ 11:23 pm

Iorras Aontaithe (B) booked their place in the final of the Tuohy Cup at home to Westport United (B) on Thursday evening the 8th July on a score of 2-1, a.e.t. Iorras were a goal down going in at half time.

Sean O'Donnell, great headed goal at the far post.

But six minutes into the second half Iorras were back on level terms when Kenny O’Connor combined well with Tom McAndrew to deliver an inch perfect cross to Sean O’Donnell who headed home at the far post. That equalizing goal had  Iorras Aontaithe (B) looking a different side after that with better movement and energy in their play.

Tom McAndrew slotting home the winning penalty.

Up front for the home side Stephen Cawley and sub, Jason Boylan were causing a lot of problems for the Westport defence and could have grabbed the winner in normal time but the game ended 1-1. In the second period of extra time Iorras were awarded a penalty and Tom McAndrew effort sent the keeper the wrong way to book their place in the final at the end of July against Claremorris. Well done everyone

The game was stopped for a time in the second half when there was a clash of heads between Sean O’Donnell of Iorras and Alan Mulchrone  of Westport, both player were substituted and Ambulance personal was called, and thankfully all was fine.

Iorras will meet their Cup Final opponents this Sunday 11th at home in the league.

Harry Reilly pulled off some great saves in the second half.

TEAM- Harry Reilly, Simon MacArthur, Kevin Carey, Paul Reilly, Vincent McGrath: Padraig Doherty, John Noel Flannary, Kenny O’Connor, Stephen Cawley: Sean O’Donnell, Tom McAndrew. SUBS- Paul Barrett, Patrick Geoghegan and Jason Boylan.

ERRIS KEEP THE PRESURE ON

Category: UncategorizedThomas @ 7:41 pm

A goal in each half from Brendan Nallan and veteran striker, Gareth O’Malley was enough to secure the three points for Erris United away to Castlebar Celtic in the Super League on Sunday 4th July.

Brendan Nallan, great with the ball.

Nallan was on target half way through the first half after some good work from Pat Barrett and ten minutes from full time Gareth O’Malley (taking time off from painting his bed room) slotted home from close range after Micky Togher  ran the full length of the pitch to provide the killer pass.

Gareth O'Malley, great with the paint brush.

With Ballina United and Westport United winning also there is no change at the top. Life in the pressure cooker is far from easy. Final Score, Castlebar Celtic 0 Iorras Aontaithe 2.

Iorras are away to Swinford on Saturday evening the 10th in the Super League and Gareth should have that room painted by then.

TEAM- Enda Conroy, Michael Meeaghan, Neil Geraghty, John Gaughan, Kenny O’ Connor: Sean Gaughan, Pat Barrett, Brendan Nallan, Jonathan Donohue: Gareth O’Malley, Micky Togher. SUBS- Shane Nallan, David Reilly and Liam Donohue.
