COLD APRIL WINDS

Category: UncategorizedThomas @ 7:52 pm

The cold April winds must be having an effect on Iorras Aontaithe both (A) and (B), with both sides still looking for their first three points of the new season.

In the Super league, Iorras and Fahy played out a 0-0 draw at a very windy and cold Carne Nash park on Sunday 29th (Match Officials 220 Euro) . On Saturday evening the 28th Iorras (B) fell to a 5-1 defeat away the Charlestown Athletic with Kyle O’Reilly scoring for the (B) side.

HE INFLUENCED A GENERATION

Category: UncategorizedThomas @ 5:58 pm

Bert Weedon, a British guitarist whose popular instructional manual”Play in a day” taught the instrument to a generation of young hopefuls — young hopefuls named Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton, John Lennon and Paul McCartney — died on Friday at his home in Beaconsfield, in the English county of Buckinghamshire. He was 91. “Play in a Day” was first published in 1957, and the advice it contained was equally sober in teaching readers how to hold the instrument and introducing basic chords.

Sadly there was no sweet music from Iorras Aontaithe in the Super League over the weekend. A very very depleted side  slumped to a 3-0 defeat away to Claremorris on Saturday evening the 21st. (Next fixture, home to Fahy Rover on Sunday 29th April, 2’30pm kick-off)

In the local derby on Sunday 22nd, Iorras Aontaithe (B) and Kilmore United played out a 0-0 draw. (Next fixture, away to Charlestown Athletic on Saturday evening the 28th with 6.30pm kick-off)

Iorras Aontaithe, points shared at windless Carne Nash.

Iorras were one up after 12 minutes when joint player-Manager, Brendan Nallen slotted home from the edge of the area but the visitors were back level on 30 minutes when the Erris wall failed to deal with a Enda McGahan free, just outside the box, and it remained level at the break.

The Iorras defensive wall, all at sea for the visitors first half equalizer

About 10 minutes into the second half Erris had their Captain sent off, but three minutes later Iorras went in front when the visitors, ———- headed the ball into his own net. With the clock ticking down, Iorras gave away a penalty and Enda McGahan converted to seal a point for Manulla.

ALL SQUARE FOR IORRAS

Category: UncategorizedThomas @ 8:54 pm

It was all square for Iorras Aontaithe U17 in their home league clash with Castlebar Celtic on a wet St. Patrick’s day in Carne Nash Park with both sides sharing the points in a pulsating encounter, final score, Iorras 2 Celtic 2. The visitors, with a few Internationals in their ranks, found Erris tougher then expected. It was 1-1 at the end of the opening half thanks to a Tom Ivan goal. Shortly into the second half Celtic went in front from the penalty spot, but Erris were soon back level when Gary Boylan slotted home with 20 minutes to go. The Manager, Michael S. Togher was delighted with the way the side preformed in the very wet conditions. Well done everyone and keep up the good form.
